A woman convicted of murdering the wife of a former soccer star was hanged in Evin Prison in Tehran on Wednesday, according to the official IRNA news agency. The woman, Shahla Jahed, was hanged in the presence of the family of the victim, Laleh Sahrkhizan, and Ms. Jahed’s former lover, Naser Mohammadkhani, who was a soccer star in the 1980s. Rights groups had campaigned for her release during her eight-year imprisonment after doubts were raised over a confession she later retracted.
